Cookies policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are small files placed on your computer by websites that you visit.. they enable the website(s) to provide services such as online banking and shopping and so are essential. Cookies cannot pass viruses or malware to your computer.

First party cookies

These are put on your computer by the website you are visiting and they enable that website to track usage of that website. Amongst them are ‘authentication’ cookies – these are the most common method used by web servers to know whether the user is logged in or not, and which account they are logged in with. You couldn’t do online banking without cookies. The only cookies we use are First Party, for Google analytics.

Session cookies

These allow a site to link the actions of a visitor during a single browser session. These might be used by an internet bank or webmail service. They are not stored long term and are considered “less privacy intrusive” than persistent cookies.

Third party cookies

These are placed on your computer by websites other than the one you’re on, via that website.. they compile long-term records of your browsing history in order to enable them to display relevant advertising on websites you visit in the future.. specific banner ads will be triggered, based on your viewing habits. If marketing companies can learn from your browsing history that you visit a lot of bicycle-related websites, you may see bicycle-related adverts popping up on random websites when you visit. You can stop third party cookies in your browser settings.

Persistent cookies

These remain on the user’s device between sessions and allow one or several sites to remember details about the visitor. They may be used by marketers to target advertising or to avoid the user having to provide a password each visit.
